Taking inspiration from our view of the North Oregon Coast, and our local warning system, I have developed the Tsunami Shawl. If the Tsunami Shawl is knit in a cotton blend, perfect for cool spring and summer evenings. If knit in blended wool, great for the blustery winter. The shawl is worked with increases on one edge, and step decreases on the other, creating an asymmetrical shallow (oxymoron) shawl with plenty of wingspan, making the shawl very versatile as a cowl, wrap, or scarf. This might be considered an advance beginner pattern because knowledge of stitch and shawl construction are helpful. It takes a few evenings or weekends to complete, making the Tsunami Shawl a perfect gift or accessory.
Finished size: Shawl: 16”depth, 88” wingspan
Gauge:
24 stitches & 24 rows = 4” to create loose soft fabric. Adjust needle size,
and row count to match gauge.

| 150 grams of Jazz Hands Fusion Fiber 100% cotton yarn arrived! |

| I gathered supplies. I also used many more hanging markers, a bowl to hold the yarn, and blocking supplies. |

| I started working the pattern. I used orange hanging markers at the 13th stitch to note EBO 12stitches. I then used a green marker for the start of the next 18 row series. I kept tally marks, but sometimes I looked back to check my work. |

| Looked good! I enjoyed the eyelet. |

| After 12 repeats of the 18 row eyelet series, I weighed the yarn. 109grams was close enough to 100 grams for me. I started the double eyelet. |

| I also placed the shawl in a gift bag to keep the progress contained and manageable. |

| I worked 7 repeats of the 18 row double eyelet series, and weighed the yarn. 53 grams. It was time to start the wave! |

| I worked the wave, placing ring markers to note the 12st repeats. I also have the yarn in a bowl to keep the cake stable. |

| Near the end of the yarn, I measured, and noted 15 yards to be saved for the EBO. I worked a couple more rows, and decided to EBO after a row 5. This photo inspired the Tsunami name. |
